MG Astor Discontinued in India After 5 Years of Launch

  • MG launched Astor in India on 11 October 2021 with an introductory price of ₹9.78 lakh
  • After five years the car has been discontinued in India and is delisted from the brand’s official website as well

MG Motor India has discontinued the Astor in India following low sales of the SUV. In fiercely competitive mid-size SUV segment Astor lost the wars with dominant players like Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos. Availability of Honda Elevate, Skoda Kushaq and Volkswagen Taigun made Astor survival tough and low sales of the car were evidence of that.

The Astor sales touch triple digits soon after the launch. In August 2026 MG sold just over 700+ units of Astor. In last one year monthly average sales of the SUV were just 112 units. But the mid-size SUV segment is too lucrative to ignore not only for MG but also for every carmaker in India because of high profit margins and unbelievably high demand by customers aided by bad road conditions which favours SUVs as they offer high ground clearance. MG is working on Astor replacement and next year we’ll get to see few updates about it.

MG offered Astor with only two petrol engine options – a 1.5-litre NA and 1.3-litre turbo. Last year MG discontinued the 1.3-litre turbo which left Astor with only one powertrain option while rivals offered petrol, diesel, EV, CNG and even hybrid options. Seems MG saw Astor’s end and they left it to die and delisting is final nail in the coffin.

As of now MG Astor’s EV cousin MG ZS EV is on sale but it costs much higher while providing not so good reliability. As Astor is discontinued it’s highly likely that discontinuation of MG ZS EV will follow as well.

STAY TUNED FOR MORE UPDATES. THANK YOU!
